Police: Armed robbery suspect arrested after attempting to run over officer

RIDGELAND, SC (WCSC) - A Ladson man accused of an armed robbery at a gas station was arrested after a pursuit in Ridgeland where authorities say he nearly ran over an officer.

The Ridgeland Police Department arrested 31-year-old Jason Paul Rosell after police say he led officers on a high speed pursuit off I-95. Officers say it all started when they stopped a stolen 1997 Saturn at Exit 22 for speeding.

As an officer approached the vehicle, authorities say the driver put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to back over the officer.  The driver then sped off and entered the Ridgeland State Prison, turned around and attempted to hit a patrol vehicle, according to police.

Police say Rosell then led officers on a high speed pursuit through downtown Ridgeland.

After a short time, the driver finally stopped on Hwy 17 around Crowfield Road.  Both the driver and passenger, 30-year-old Dwight Durrell Milner of Detroit, were arrested and locked up at the Jasper County Detention Center.

Rosell, was charged with speeding, driving under suspension, simple possession of marijuana, open container violation and fail to stop for blue light and siren.  He is also being held on charges from Berkeley County for armed robbery of a Kangaroo Gas station on College Park Road in Ladson and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Milner was arrested for open container violation and cursing or abusing police and is also wanted in the State of Virginia.
