CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A detention center officer with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office is facing assault charges for repeatedly punching a female suspect in the face, authorities say.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged 35-year-old Repeunzel Rivers, of Santee, with third-degree assault and battery and misconduct in office.

According to arrest warrants, Rivers was caught on camera repeatedly punching a female suspect in the face while she was being booked at the Charleston County Detention Center on Dec. 17.

Live 5 News has requested video of the incident.

The female victim suffered bruising to her left eye, temple area, and collar bone.  She also sustained a cut to the inside of her lower lip and a swollen upper lip, according to warrants.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office said Rivers has worked there as a detention officer since August of 2003.  They also said she is currently on administrative leave without pay.

SLED is investigating the case at the request of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
