Students release balloons to remember classmates lost in car crash

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students at Waccamaw Elementary held a special ceremony Friday morning in honor of two classmates they lost earlier this week in a car accident.

Students released blue, green and yellow balloons at the school's flagpole in honor of Joshua and Gavin Williams who died Tuesday when the car they were riding in crashed into a school bus.  Their parents, Joshua and Brandy Williams, also died in the wreck.

The blue balloons symbolized the kindergarten level, green for the fourth grade, and yellow balloons were used to represent the bus driver injured in the accident.

Some surviving family members attended the ceremony as well.

Funeral services for the Williams family will be held Monday and Tuesday afternoon at First Baptist Church in Shallotte.  They will be open to the public.

Funeral plots at Old Shallotte Cemetery have been donated. Those interested in helping the surviving family members may make donations to the Williams Family, care of Jennings Branch Baptist Church in Shallotte.
