NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - After much anticipation and waiting, the low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines has landed in the Lowcountry.
The first flight out of Charleston International Airport left Sunday morning at 7 a.m. bound for Chicago-Midway. The first flight arriving in Charleston came from Baltimore around 10:30 a.m.
Not only is Southwest launching service in Charleston, but also in the Upstate. The first departures and arrivals took place Sunday at the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.
On Monday, Southwest Airlines will hold a news conference to officially launch service to and from Charleston International Airport. Hundreds of Southwest Airlines Customers and Employees will be on-hand to celebrate the milestone. Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to attend.
