WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The man accused of gunning down a West Ashley woman Monday while she was washing dishes will be in bond court Tuesday.
Charleston police charged 34-year-old Arthur Peterson Jr. with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime after a shooting took place at the victim's Taberwood Circle home. Authorities say Peterson shot and killed 45-year-old Gwendolyn Fields.
Family members say the suspect is a self proclaimed preacher who was a regular visitor at the home. Peterson's bond hearing will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a witness, Peterson pulled the trigger when officers arrived at the house. Peterson was arrested on the spot. He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
According to Peterson's rap sheet, the suspect only has one prior charge which dates all the way back to 1995. That charge was for underage possession of alcohol.
