CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District says they are planning to change principals from two high schools.
The change is expected to happen next year for both Burke and North Charleston High Schools, which officials say are the lowest performing schools in the district. Both will remain at their current schools for the remainder of the current school year.
North Charleston High's Juanita Middleton is expected to pursue a position in Early Childhood, assisting with the Early Head Start grant and program.
While Burke High's Charles Benton will leave Burke to work at North Charleston High School as an interim principal. He will oversee the school while the Renaissance Project Task Force, a cross-section of community members, parents, teachers, and students, works on setting a new and improved vision for the school.
The task force will then recommend a new principal for North Charleston High School. When a new principal is selected, Benton will work to transition the school over to the new principal.
The Charleston branch of the NAACP will be holding a conference on Monday to respond to the district planned changes and announced a town hall meeting for community input.
