Restaurant glass recycling bill moves forward

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A bill requiring bars and restaurants to recycle plastic or glass bottles gets key approval from lawmakers.

A senate judiciary sub-committee passed senate bill 461. It says owners must submit a recycling plan in order to get a liquor license.

The lawmakers made some changes to the original proposal which includes a ten to twenty-five percent savings on liquor license fees, instead of using accommodation taxes funding would come from the governor's litter task force and permit holders who aren't near a recycling center could be exempt.

Local restaurants such as Crave of Mount Pleasant tell us they support recycling but do not like the fact the requirement will be attached to their liquor license application.

The bill now moves to the full senate judiciary committee.
