GPS ankle monitor aids Moncks Corner police in arrest

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) – The Moncks Corner Police Department arrested 22-year-old Brandon Bannister on charges of burglary in the first degree Friday night.

Police say Bannister broke into a home early in the morning last week and tried to sexually assault a person inside the home, then ran. Officers say Bannister's GPS ankle monitor placed Bannister at the scene of the crime last week.

Evidence left at the scene pointed them in Bannister's direction, but more importantly police say the GPS signal from his anklet will confirm he was at the residence the morning of the crime.

Bannister was questioned by Moncks Corner Police to determine whether more charges will be added to his arrest. Bannister is currently being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center.

Authorities say that Bannister was wearing the GPS monitoring device because of a house arrest bond on a charge of indecent exposure.
