SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Two 26-year-old cousins have been arrested for the attempted robbery of a 69-year-old woman, that has also led police to connect them with four other cases Thursday.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police have charged Michael Eugene Harris with attempted robbery and the abuse of an elderly person and Kevin Bruce Holton with robbery. The men were arrested after police discovered them in a nearby motel room.
The woman was walking to her car on the 7400 block of Abercorn Street about 10 p.m when a man pushed her down and tried to take her purse. The woman fought back and held onto the purse while a witness chased the man to the area near the hotel before losing him.
An alert Southside Precinct officer noticed the description matched Harris, who had been identified as a suspect in an earlier robbery at Wal-Mart. There, a 17-year-old woman reported a man snatched a purse from her shopping cart about 2 a.m. and ran when witnesses gave chase. The suspect dropped the purse and was seen getting into a car with another man.
Police traced the car to its owner who said the two cousins had borrowed it and returned it Friday morning. Harris also is suspected of entering an automobile at the Parkers convenience store on Beech Street.
SCMPD are continuing to investigate.
