BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – Officials in Berkeley County are turning trash into electricity.
At 10:30 a.m. officials will welcome a green power generating station, the first in the Tri-County area and Santee Cooper's sixth landfill generating station.
The station takes methane gas that naturally occurs at landfills and turns it into a fuel source for electricity. It is supposed to help the environment because methane gas is a greenhouse gas that is 21-times more potent than carbon dioxide.
Tours of the station will be available following the program at 10:30 a.m.
