COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Colleton County fire crews were busy on Wednesday as fires erupted throughout the area.
The latest was a fire that was put out on Tuesday but rekindled due to the weather. The Wednesday afternoon fire happened at a garage/workshop on Benjamin Drive. Colleton County fire officials say the wind caused the fire to reignite and once started burning, the wind spread it rapidly.
Fire crews say the fire had spread to woods from across the road. Firefighters were able to save a house in the area however the workshop was a loss with the victim losing thousands of tools and equipment. At least 20 acres burned in that fire.
Two firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion with one being transported to Colleton Medical Center, but later released.
Another Wednesday afternoon fire happened on Bells Highway in western Colleton County around 1:49 p.m. In that fire five acres was rekindled from a controlled fire on Sunday.
Fire fighters were also called out to a 19 acre woods fire on Wesley Chapel Avenue at Tolle Farm Road. No homes were damaged in either of the fires.
