Minor injured in Summerville shooting

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Detectives in Dorchester County are investigating a shooting in the Haven Oaks neighborhood in Summerville which left a minor injured on Wednesday night.

Dorchester County deputies responded to the Bi-Lo parking lot on Boonehill Road on Wednesday after hearing that a minor was suffering from a gunshot wound.

On arrival, a male victim told police that he was shot in the rear of his upper left thigh while he was walking in the 500 block of Orangeburg Road.

The victim told law enforcement he only heard two gunshots, and saw no one in the area during the shooting.

The victim was transferred to MUSC for medical treatment.  He is expected to fully recover.

Two people who were at the scene with the victim when deputies arrived told conflicting stories.

One person told deputies that the shooting occurred not on Orangeburg Road, but in a grassy area between the entrance to the Haven Oaks neighborhood and the rear entrance to the Bi-Lo.

That person also told law enforcement that they had just left one of the apartments in the neighborhood right before the shooting occurred, and that he only heard one shot fired.

The other person told deputies that the shooting did happen in the 500 block of Orangeburg Road, but he said he heard three to four shots.  That person also said that they had just left a convenience store at the corner of Orangeburg Road and Embassy Drive.

Deputies continued their investigation by interviewing several residents in the area, but many reported not hearing gun shots at all.  Deputies also searched the area for shell casings and were unable to find any evidence of a shooting.

This investigation is ongoing.  If you have any information regarding the shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
