Coroner: Man identified in fatal McClellanville car crash

MCCLELLANVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person was killed in a single car accident that happened early Sunday morning on River Road in McClellanville.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 19-year-old York Maxwell. Another passenger along with Maxwell was thrown out of the car.

According to investigators a Ford Mustang was traveling north on US-17 at around 12-midnight when the car ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned.

The driver of the car and the other passenger was taken to MUSC with unknown injuries caused in the accident. Both passengers were not wearing their seatbelts.

Authorities have charged the driver Corey Allen Deas, 31, of McClellanville with felony DUI.

The accident is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
