JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Lowcountry lived in the past and present over weekend after the 7th annual Battle of Charleston was held on Johns Island.
"Without history we don't have no future," said re-enactor Phillip Lemieux.
Re-enactors from the Southeast flooded Johns Island to replay the four-day Battle of Bloody Bridge.
"It was pretty brutal," Lemieux said.
Around 230 soldiers showed up to fight off the advancing Union troops in the 7th annual re-enactment...
"Things happen with the economy and these guys spend their own money," said event manager Buddy Jarrells. "It's not like they're getting paid to do it. It's tough for them sometimes."
