ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A Santee man is facing charges for operating an illegal gambling operation on a boat in Vance.

Officers from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the Department of Natural Resources executed a search warrant at the boat called 'Mark Twain', located at 216 Pine Bluff Street on Saturday.

70-year-old William R. Detyens, the alleged operator, is charged with unlawful possession/operation of a slot, video, vending machine or gambling device.

Orangeburg County Sheriff  Leroy Ravenell said, "Over the years, we have received numerous complaints about the noise and the gambling boat operations. As a result of our investigation and Saturday's search warrant, we seized a total of 16 illegal video poker machines and close to $2000 in cash from the vessel."

Ravenell also said, "We are investigating and following up on complaints of all illegal activity regardless of the location. We are not just going after night clubs but any operation that is illegal on the land or on the water. The law is the law!"

SLED issued numerous alcohol related citations and several vessel citations were issued by DNR.

A personal recognizance bond was set for Detyens at $3500.
