Red Cross assisting two families of four displaced by fire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Red Cross is helping two families tonight after fires damaged two homes in the Lowcountry.

North Charleston Fire officials said a fire started in the 1200 block of Sumner Avenue, in Summerville, just before noon on Monday.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in about 15 minutes and damage was contained to the attic.  Fire officials believe the fire started in the air handling unit.  Red Cross is providing assistance to a family of four which resided in one of the apartments.

The Red Cross also provided assistance to Green Pond family of four on Sunday.  That home was completely destroyed by the fire.
