Authorities ticket man after 1200-acre Dorchester fire

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The SC Forestry Commission says that a 59-year-old man has been ticketed after allegedly starting a 1,200-acre fire in the Sand Ridge Area.

Scott Hawkins with the forestry commission says that Raymond Nelson was ticketed for allowing fire to spread to land of another.

Forestry officials say that the maximum fine for the charge is $407, if found guilty.

Officials said that the fire, which started Thursday in the area of Horseford Road and Powder Horn Road, was brought under control on Friday. Fire officials say 52 homes were in danger due to the fire, but none were lost.

Firefighters worked around the clock putting water on the ground to make sure the fire was contained.
