Woman points rifle at clerk during Circle K robbery

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police are looking for a woman they say held up a Circle K convenience store with a rifle early Tuesday morning.

The armed robbery happened at the corner of Savage Road and Savannah Highway around 3:50 a.m. The store clerk told police that she was coming from the back room when she saw the suspect placing the outside cigarette disposal stand in between the two front doors, propping them open.

The suspect then pointed a rifle at the victim and yelled repeatedly for her to give her the money.

The clerk opened the cash register and pulled out the cash tray. The suspect pulled the money out of the tray and put it in the pockets of her hooded sweatshirt.

Nearby business owners were stunned when we showed them the surveillance photos.

"This is the worst thing I've ever seen, a woman carrying such a big rifle like that and walking in? What a shame," said Subway owner Nilesh Patel.

"That really terrifies me," said Anne Pineault of the Tobacco Spot. "What is she thinking, you know?"

Detectives say the female bandit may have taken off toward Melrose Drive. She is still on the run.

The suspect is described as a white female, possibly Hispanic, wearing a gray zip-up hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes and an orange bandanna covering her nose and mouth.
