COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A state Senate leader says the former University of South Carolina trustee ousted by Gov. Nikki Haley opposes a bill meant to give her another seat.
Senate Education Committee Chairman John Courson said Tuesday that Wall Street financier and benefactor Darla Moore has no interest in running for a spot on the board. Courson said he spoke to Moore last Friday.
Courson says Moore opposes a bill adding a 21st seat to the board, saying it would make the board more cumbersome. Haley informed Moore this month that she was being replaced.
A spokesman for Moore didn't immediately return a phone message Tuesday.
Moore is the school's largest donor. She announced last week an additional $5 million donation. That brings her total pledge to the university to $75 million.
