SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police are looking for two suspects wanted for an armed robbery which happened late Tuesday night in Summerville.
Summerville Police Department officers responded to the El Cheapo gas station and convenience store, located in the 600 block of Boonehill Road, around 9 p.m., just after the robbery occurred.
Surveillance video from the scene shows two men wearing black clothing and fatigues approach the clerk at the front door. The men pushed the clerk to the ground and stuck a handgun in his face.
The suspects then picked the clerk up and hurried him behind the counter. The man with the gun coerced the clerk into opening the cash register while the other suspect stole cigarettes and cigars from the display case.
Surveillance video shows both suspects leaving the scene just 30 seconds after arriving.
Police said the suspects were both wearing what appear to be white cotton gloves and that they also concealed their faces.
According to the police report, the clerk's visibly upset mother came to the scene shortly after police arrived. The mother was told by police that she was not allowed on the crime scene, but refused to leave, claiming that this was the second time in two years that her son had been robbed at the store.
Police said she demanded to be allowed to stay with her son. When an officer attempted to explain and usher the woman away from the crime scene, she swung wildly and struck the officer in the arm, the report states.
According to the report, police were eventually able to remove the woman from the scene and she was arrested for interfering with police.
Witnesses at the scene told police that they saw the two suspects running from the store towards the Magnolia Place Apartments. One witness said that the taller suspect was wearing a ski mask.
A K-9 was also brought to the scene and proceeded to track the robbers towards the Magnolia Place Apartments, but lost the scent.
