CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A pre-bridge run event is helping promote physical activity and health for children.
The annual kids run was held in Hampton Park in Downtown Charleston on Friday. The day included an expo, proper stretching techniques.
They signed up, got race numbers and enjoyed the expo before the annual kids run.
"I like running because in lots of sports you have to run and I like sports. I just thought it would be a good idea," 6-year-old Josh Burns said.
Ted Kelly brought his grandsons to the expo and kids run in Hampton Park. He has taken part in the Cooper River Bridge run 31 times now.
"Our whole family is very oriented toward athletics. It was very easy, nothing I made them want to do it, they just wanted to," Ted Kelly said.
"You going to win? Hopefully that's my goal," Liam Kelly said.
The expo included plenty of fun and games and some healthy food choices. The expo lasted three hours before children took their spots at the starting line.
"The concept is to increase physical activity, a lot of our guests come from out of town whose parents are running in the adult bridge run on Saturday, so this is another add on event for the children to enjoy," said Liz Sheridan, Kids Run co-director.
