2 killed in early morning car wreck in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner's says two people were killed in an early morning car crash in Cross after striking a tree.

According to authorities a sedan was traveling east on Old Highway 6 in Berkeley County when it ran off the road and hit a tree.

The coroner's office pronounced 18-year-old Devontee Richardson and Zakariah Gourdine, 20, both from St. Stephen, dead at the scene. Both Richardson and Gourdine died from body injuries and both were wearing their seatsbelts.

Investigators are ruling their death accidental. The driver was transported to MUSC and his condition is unknown.

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of the accident.
