MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A former Atlantic Beach mayor has told prosecutors she will represent herself at her retrial on a resisting arrest charge from three years ago
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports a date for Retha Pierce's new trial was not set Friday.
Pierce's original lawyer in the case, Irby Walker, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2010 after authorities said he tried to hire someone to kill another attorney who once practiced in his office.
Police arrested Pierce during a Dec. 25, 2007, traffic stop after officers said tried to run away. Pierce says she wasn't disobeying any orders and she just needed to go to the bathroom really bad.
Pierce's 2008 trial on the charge ended with the jury unable to come to a verdict.
