MONCKS CORNER, SC (AP) - An outdoor attraction in Moncks Corner has put up signs warning visitors that alligators can be found along its trails.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the urgency to put up the signs at Cypress Gardens came after a woman from Ohio was bitten last spring by a gator after either stepping on the animal or trying to step over it.
The yellow signs warn visitors to keep a safe distance from alligators and other animals found along the trails.
Cypress Gardens Director Dwight Williams says last year's incident was the only time a gator has bitten someone in his 15 years with the gardens. He says he doesn't want to scare visitors, but wants them to have a healthy respect for all wildlife.
