Police arrested a man on Friday after they found 25 grams of marijuana and a handgun in his car after pulling him over for speeding in North Charleston.

North Charleston police said they saw Derrick Willingham speeding through the Union Heights neighborhood on Delaware Street around 8:30 p.m.

When police stopped the driver in his green Jeep Cherokee, they said they saw him reach underneath the driver's seat as they were moving towards the car.

Officers told Willingham to put his hands up, and said they noticed he was shaking nervously and sweating profusely, despite it being a cool night.

Police said they noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the car, and Willingham took 25 grams of marijuana from his pants pocket and gave it to police.

Police also found a .38 caliber pistol underneath the driver's seat.

Willingham was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.  He is charged with possession of marijuana and the unlawful carrying of a pistol.
