GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a 23-year-old woman early Tuesday morning after she allegedly assaulted a police officer following a scuffle with her boyfriend over McDonalds' cheeseburgers.
Goose Creek Police responded to the 200 block of Branchwood Drive on a domestic call at 1:15 a.m. Upon arrival a police officer said he could hear a struggle inside the apartment.
Officer Kelly Loff said that a man, 36-year-old Ralph Shute III, answered the door while his girlfriend and baby's mother, 23-year-old Taryn Dawsey, was hanging onto his shirt and hitting him in the shoulder.
Loff said Dawsey attempted to block his entrance, but he overpowered her, pushing the door with enough force to separate the molding from the frame.
Once inside Loff said he put himself between the couple, and Dawsey inadvertently struck him in the chest and arm while trying to hit Shute, who was standing behind the police officer.
When other officers arrived on the scene, Loff had managed to successfully move Shute outside of the apartment.
Shute then told police that the fight began with an argument over McDonald's food that they had just purchased on the way home from the Two Keys Tavern.
Shute said they began throwing food at each other but that the altercation turned physical when Dawsey attacked him and struck him in the face.
Police then interviewed Dawsey, who said that Shute threw a cheeseburger in the toilet and then threw a cheeseburger at her. She denied hitting Shute.
Police arrested Dawsey and took her to the Berkeley County Detention Center. She is charged with criminal domestive violence and assaulting a police officer.
Shute and Officer Loff both declined to press charges.
