Former Charleston Co. administrator passes away

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Former Charleston County Administrator Dr. Steve Steinert died Wednesday after a long fight with cancer.

He is credited with implementing the emergency 911 system in the county.

Dr. Steinert also developed the Department of Urban Studies at the College of Charleston where he taught for five years and also helped Mayor Joe Riley set up his administration in the 1970`s.

More recently, he served as an associate municipal judge for the City of Charleston.

The funeral for Dr. Steinert is Friday at 11 am at Synagogue Emanu-El. Dr. Steinert was 64.
