SC Forestry Commission: $2M worth of timber damage from 'Windy Fire'

McClellanville, SC (WCSC) - The SC Forestry Commission says that a 2400 acre fire in McClellanville, known as the Windy Fire, caused an estimated $2 million worth of timber damage.

Scott Hawkins with the forestry commission said that the fire was set intentionally by either matches, a lighter or some other device.

Officials say 16 buildings were destroyed in that fire but none were homes. The fire started burning near the Santee River in northern Charleston County.
