SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has arrested four people in connection with the theft of 2,000 lbs. of wire, tubing and other copper material.
Authorities charged 19-year-old Anthony Lyle, 17-year-old Keith O'Brian Conklin and 19-year-old Patricia Wesley Smith with second-degree burglary and unlawful possession/transport of non-ferrous metals. Darren M. Avey, 28, was charged with unlawful possession/transport of non-ferrous metals.
An ongoing investigation by detectives resulted in the suspects being taken into custody following a traffic stop on Monday.
According to a sheriff's office report, the suspects were found to be in possession of 555 lbs. of copper wire, tubing and other copper material.
Investigators say the copper recovered from the traffic stop was determined to have been taken during an early morning burglary on Monday at Low Country Recycling on North Main Street in Summerville.
