CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Union flag was lowered Thursday at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.
Re-enactors raised the Confederate stars and bars as Union re-enactors leave the fort.
Re-enactors have been camping at the site since last weekend, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. In 1861, Union forces at Fort Sumter surrendered. It would be almost four years before the American flag was raised again at the fort.
Plans are being made to restage that event in 2015. Activities commemorating the start of the Civil War continue in Charleston through the weekend.
