Father arrested for encouraging son to fight

TAMPA, FL (CBS) - A Florida dad is facing charges after he was caught on video encouraging his teenage boy to fight, officials said.

The video shows Philip Struthers, 42, yelling while his son, 16, was engaged in a violent fist-fight with another boy his same age. Struthers can be heard saying, "Punch his eyes out."

The father also said, "Slam his head on the ground."

Deputies said Struthers made no attempt to break up the fight.

A neighbor who witnessed the fight called the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office to report the incident and told investigators where they could find the video online. It was posted on the web site "World Star Hip-hop."

The incident happened on April 9 in front of a home. Struthers was arrested Tuesday and charged with child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"In the world today, where we have the violence that we do, and you actually have parents now encouraging their children to go out and engage in this type of violence, [it] was disturbing to obviously the people that reported it," said Larry McKinnon with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. "[It was] very disturbing to investigators and, as well, to the community,"

Struthers was released from jail Wednesday after posting bond.
