SC State student shot, crashes car into campus building

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A South Carolina State University student died after he was shot in the upper torso and crashed his car into a building on campus, according to a university spokesperson.

The SC State University Police Department received a report of a car that had crashed into the campus' service building on Russell Street around 11:15pm.

University spokesman Anthony Hollman said a 22-year-old male from Holly Hill, SC was the driver of the vehicle. He also confirmed that the young man was a senior at South Carolina State University.

EMS was notified and initially treated the incident as a normal vehicle accident, according to Hollman, but it was later determined that the victim received a gun shot wound to the upper torso. The victim was then taken to Palmetto Richland Hospital where he later died from his injuries early Saturday morning.

The SC State University Police Department and SLED are continuing to investigate this incident.
