Elderly man drowns after losing control of car at boat ramp

BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) - The Beaufort County coroner says an 83-year-old man drowned after losing control of his car on a boat ramp.

According to the coroner's office, Frank Fulwood was backing up his vehicle and boat trailer on the Battery Creek boat ramp on Parris Island Monday evening.

Authorities say when Fulwood lost control of the car, the vehicle and trailer were submerged with the man still inside.

Fulwood was able to get out of the vehicle, but was then pulled into the river.

The coroner's office says emergency crews responded, but were unable to revive the man.
