Wounded customer stops robbery suspect following car pursuit

LADSON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a customer who was shot during a robbery, struck the suspect's car several times with his SUV in an attempt to stop him in Ladson Tuesday night.

Authorities charged 22-year-old Brandon Lennard Jenkins with the armed robbery of the Li'l Cricket on 10305 US 78.

Clerks at the store say that two men came into the store and took money from the cash registers. As they were leaving, a Honda SUV pulled up to the store.

According to investigators, one of the suspects then shot at the car, first striking the radiator and then the driver.

The victim said he then followed the suspects in his SUV and phoned police. At one point, the suspect's car stopped and both of the men left the car.

Jenkins then confronted the victim and asked him why he was following them, authorities say. The victim told police that Jenkins then got back into his car and drove off.  Deputies say the victim began to follow the suspects again, this time striking Jenkins' car in an attempt to stop him.

The victim said he followed the vehicle until police got behind Jenkins' vehicle.

The victim then returned to the Li'l Cricket where he was treated by EMS for contusions and a laceration.
