GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a 47-year-old man accused of strangling his girlfriend then chasing her to a grocery store in Goose Creek late Tuesday night.
The Goose Creek Police Department charged Chicoba Crabtree with criminal domestic violence and trespassing.
Officer responded to a home on Dogwood Avenue in reference to a domestic violence incident. Witness say that they had seen Crabtree chasing his 41-year-old girlfriend out of a home both of them share.
According to investigators, officers found Crabtree, who smelled of alcohol, at the parking lot of a grocery store on St. James Avenue at the Brandywine Shopping Center. Crabtree told the officers that he had not been home all day and that he was on his way to pick up pizza for dinner.
Officers found the victim in the grocery store who they say was visibly shaken and had red marks around her neck.
The victim said she was sleeping at their home when Crabtree began shaking and strangling her. According to the victim, she was able to escape and ran to the grocery store to seek refuge.
Crabtree was charged with criminal domestic violence and also charged with an active trespass notice at the grocery store's parking lot.
