OAKLAND, CA (KTVU/CNN) - Police arrested a woman in Oakland, CA, after they say she left her 1-month-old twins in the car while prostituting.
"I would hate to think the possibilities of what could have happened to those two little innocent babies who were sitting in the back seat of the car had we not intervened," said Sgt. Roland Holmgren.
Officers say an undercover officer saw the woman loitering and got her to agree to perform a sexual act for money. The woman allegedly got in his car and they drove off. They were stopped by other officers at a nearby restaurant parking lot, and she told the officer her children were in the car a few blocks away.
Police found the babies safe and asleep in infant chairs in the car, with a front window opened slightly for fresh air.
The infants were turned over to county Child Protective Services. The woman was charged with suspicion of felony child endangerment and suspicion of soliciting an act of prostitution.
Officers say she did not show any remorse, and told police she needed the cash to get home.
