3 Murrells Inlet businesses damaged in early morning fire

MURRELLS, INLET (WMBF) - At approximately 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Murrells Inlet Fire Rescue was called to the scene of a structure fire on U.S. Highway 17 Business in the Murrells let area.

According to Captain Rodney Jewett of Murrells Inlet Fire Rescue, a passing taxi cab reported the Big Ass Sandwich Company building was on fire.  The building complex contains the sandwich shop as well as Captain John's Barber Shop and Inlet Architectural Design.  When crews arrived on scene, the roof of the complex was on fire.  The architecture office suffered severe damage, including a collapsed roof, while the barber and sandwich shop sustained some fire and water damage.

Midway and Surfside Fire and Rescue provided assistance at the scene and the fire was put out in roughly 30 minutes.  Crews were on scene fore more than two hours.  No injuries occurred during the blaze due to the property being vacant during the early morning hours.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and being investigated.  Stay with WMBF News for more information.
