LADSON, SC (WCSC) - The U.S. Marshals Office says that a man wanted for shooting at a gas station customer multiple times was found relaxing at a Florida hotel on Monday.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old James Rickie Cobb at the Days Inn hotel in Orlando. Cobb was wanted for three counts of attempted murder and armed robbery. Cobb has a criminal history which includes arrests for burglary, grand larceny and armed robbery.
Investigators developed information that Cobb may have fled to the Orlando area. That information was passed on to other law agencies in Florida. Acting quickly on the received information, authorities saw Cobb at the hotel swimming pool sunbathing.
"Cobb seemed to be enjoying his life on the lam, lounging in the Florida sun," said Kelvin Washington of the U.S. Marshals for South Carolina. "He did not anticipate the dedication of law enforcement in this case. Mr. Cobb will be brought back to South Carolina to face the charges alleged against him."
Investigators say Cobb's latest crime involved him shooting at two customers who tried to stop him after an armed robbery at the Li'l Cricket on 10305 US 78. A police report states that when Cobb and 22-year-old Brandon Jenkins were robbing the store, two customers saw the robbery taking place and left.
Cobb then left the store and shot at the car striking the driver, authorities say. The victim then told investigators that he pursued the suspects' car during which he was shot at twice by Cobb.
Jenkins was arrested following the pursuit.
