CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Smoke forced an American Airlines 737 to make an emergency landing around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Airport officials say 160 passengers were on board, but no one was injured.

Passengers smelled smoke coming from the plane and the pilot decided to land at the airport as a precaution. The 737 was traveling from Miami, Fla. to Washington, D.C.

The passengers are staying at area hotels while crews get the plane ready for its next flight. The plane is scheduled to leave Charleston around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday for Washington, D.C.
