LOUDON, NH (WMUR/CNN) - A New Hampshire woman turns 100 on Thursday.
She hasn't been behind the wheel of a car in more than 15 years, but the birthday girl got a surprise gift - the chance to do laps around a NASCAR track.
Rachel Gilbert's daughter asked the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for tickets to an upcoming race. The tickets turned into laps at the track with Gilbert behind the wheel.
"We told her 'Mom, you're going to get to go to the Nascar race track and drive a car around the track' and she says 'Oh my Lord,'" said Helen Nickle, Gilbert's daughter.
She didn't quite hit triple digits like her Nascar heroes. Her top speed was only about 50 miles per hour. But it was a dream come true for the great grandmother of nine.
"I can't make up my mind that I'm here, really, at 100 years old" she said.
After a few laps, she was given VIP tickets to the July Spring Cup race and an autographed shirt from her favorite driver, Carl Edwards.
