WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - After receiving a call from a neighbor, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office found a body Saturday afternoon off Wappoo Road. Harry Wilson was mowing his neighbors lawn when he saw something out of the corner of his eye.
"All I could see was the hand of the person," Wilson said. "We couldn't even see his face or nothing.
Wilson got a closer look and couldn't believe what he saw.
"We found the body laying on the edge of the ditch," he said.
Wilson immediately called the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived around 3:30 p.m. and began combing a nearby field, looking for evidence and gathering information. The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified that victim as 22-year-old Joseph Hymes from West Ashley.
The victim was wearing a dark blue or black hoodie that was pulled over his face and white jeans imprinted with designs. Deputies are treating the case as a homicide.
Wilson says the only reason he found the body because he was doing a favor for a friend.
"I keep this property up for (my neighbor) on the count that he let's us park trucks on it," Wilson said.
And before mowing the grass Saturday, he hadn't parked on the property in at least a week.
The sheriff's office says no motive or suspects have been identified. If you have any information about this incident please call Crime Stoppers at 554-111.
