Inmate charged with attacking detention officer in Georgetown Co.

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Georgetown County Detention Center officer is recovering after being attacked by an inmate over the weekend.

Georgetown County Sheriff's deputies says Sgt. Joanne Clarey was treated for knee injuries on Sunday.

According to an incident report, an inmate, John Thomas Cook, became violent when Clarey and another officer were moving him to another cell block.

Reports state that Cook kicked Clarey in the knee before he was tasered and subdued.  Cook is charged with assault and second-degree battery.
