Moncks Corner (WCSC) - Jeff Cruce, who's spent the last 3 seasons as the Head Football coach/AD at Cane Bay High School has agreed to take the same position at Berkeley High.
Cruce, who spent a season in the 90's as an assistant for the Stags, will be replacing 3 time state champion Jerry Brown. Brown is leaving to become the Athletic Director at Fairfield Central High.
"This is one of the toughest days of my life" Cruce told Live 5 on Tuesday about leaving Cane Bay. "We thought we had the talent to win the region next year."
But the opportunity to coach at Berkeley, which will put him closer to his family, was too good to pass up.
"This is one of the top 10 jobs in South Carolina, everybody knows that. I'm excited to be part of the tradition."
Cruce, a former Clemson player, spent 12 seasons coaching at Hanahan before becoming the 1st Head Coach in Cane Bay history. The Cobras went 14-20 in his 3 years including a share of the region title and their first playoff birth in 2010.
The Berkeley County School District told Live 5 the opening at Cane Bay will be posted sometime this week.
