NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department busted five businesses accused of selling alchohol to an underage informant.
Authorities charged 64-year-old Ayaz Jadoon, 31-year-old Lorenzo Romo-Olizo, 20-year-old Cinthya Villicana'Chavez, 36-year-old Luis Arturo and 50-year-old Rogelio Zillaltando with sale of beer or wine to a person under 21.
On Wednesday, investigators conducted an alcohol enforcement operation targeting retail establishments.
An underage informant, accompanied by an undercover officer, entered different businesses throughout the city. A police report states that the underage informant then purchased alcoholic beverages from the following businesses:
- Kwik Stop at 5137 N. Rhett
- La Hacienda on 6322 Rivers Avenue
- Los Puentos II on 3387-A Ashley Phosphate Road
- Tienda Hispana on 2665 Ashley Phosphate Road
- Senior Tequila on 9730 Dorchester Road
Police Chief Jon Zumalt said, "Everyday we work to raise awareness of the dangers involved in underage drinking and we will continue to hold retailers accountable when they contribute to the problem."
As a part of its efforts to crack down on the illegal underage sale of alcohol, the North Charleston Police is continuing to conduct operations to educate students of the consequences of under age drinking; and engage retailers to prevent underage alcohol purchase.
