Farmer killed after log truck crashes into tractor in Colleton Co.

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - One person is dead after their tractor collided with a log truck Thursday afternoon on Lodge Highway in Colleton County.

The Colleton County Coroner's Office says John Shirey, 40, from Columbia died from body injuries sustained in the crash.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Shirey was driving a 1969 John Deere farm tractor. He tried to make a left turn onto Sunflower Lane when the driver of a tractor trailer loaded with logs tried to pass on a double-yellow line and crashed into his tractor.

The log truck overturned and spilled the logs onto the road. Troopers say the road was closed for about six hours.

The accident is under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol and the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
