MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A three-hour overnight standoff at a Mt. Pleasant apartment complex ended peacefully Monday morning.
Authorities charged 52-year-old Michael Harris with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
Mt. Pleasant police responded to a domestic call around 9 p.m. Sunday at the Edgewater Plantation Apartments just off of Interstate 526. Police say a man with a pistol barricaded himself inside an apartment.
The victim, Harris' girlfriend, was found injured and outside of the house. She told police that Harris was in the house armed with a 9mm handgun and was threatening suicide. According to a police report, the suspect punched the victim in the face several times, placed a gun to her face and said, "I will blow your brains out."
The victim said that they were on a boat all day long and when they got back, the suspect drank two beers, started yelling and punched the victim in the face.
Police say Harris then barricaded himself in the house. Neighbors in the surrounding area were evacuated. Harris eventually surrendered and taken into custody.
