Officers responded to a bank robbery at the Palmetto Heritage Bank and Trust located at 3102 North Highway 17. Police say the bank was robbed at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say a female suspect entered the bank brandishing a firearm and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect then fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of currency.

The suspect is described as a black female about 5'2" to 5'5". She is described as heavyset and was wearing all black clothing with a black apron, khaki colored hat and black round glasses.

According to the Charleston County School District, Wando High School, Charles Pickney Elementary, Thomas C. Cairo Middle School and Laurel Hill Primary School were all placed on administrative lockdown because of the bank robbery.

Everything at the schools went on as normal, but no one was allowed to enter or leave. The lockdowns have been lifted and all four schools have resumed a normal schedule and students are safe.
