SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police are investigating a series of motorcycle thefts from apartment complexes in Summerville.

Investigators say a sport bike was stolen from the Vista Sands apartment complex on May 6, while another was stolen on May 8 from Wellington Place Apartments.

According to investigators, a van stolen from the Grove apartment complex on May 7, was used to transport the stolen motorcycles.

"They'll steal a mid to late 90's model Dodge Caravan, something like that, Plymouth Voyager, and then they go to the other apartment complexes and steal motorcycles," said Summerville Police Capt. Jon Rogers.

Police say bench seats that were taken out of the van were found Tuesday morning at the Vista Sands apartment complex.

Detectives believe the thieves came down from the Sumter area. Capt. Rogers says in 2008, a stolen sport bike was traced to Sumter, where officers found several more stolen motorcycles in a warehouse.

Authorities are continuing the investigation.
