GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown Police Department says a city camera helped lead police to a man accused of killing his wife.
Authorities arrested 54-year-old William Constance in connection with the stabbing death of his wife, Margaret Constance.
Police say William Constance was arrested by police on Tuesday after he drove past a camera set up on Highway 17 in Maryville. Officials say the camera takes a picture of every car's license plate and a system then verifies to see if the plate is listed on the National Crime Information.
Georgetown Police say once they were alerted by the system, officers made a traffic stop on Constance's vehicle and arrested him.
An arrest warrant alleges that Constance stabbed his estranged wife at her home Sunday on South Lake Drive near Lexington.
According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Office, Margaret Constance was stabbed 25 times. The motive for the killing is under investigation.
