Lightning blows hole in ceiling

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A mother and son are happy to be safe and sound after lightning struck their house early Wednesday morning.

It happened about 4:15 a.m., on Pinckney Park Dr. just off Hwy. 17. Erika Hollings said she and her infant son were sleeping in the room when the lightning struck the side of the house.

It caused a loud boom, the window shattered and it sparked flames. Hollings said the ceiling caved in, leaving a large hole.

Two other people live in the home. No one was injured. By the time firefighters arrived, any sign of the fire was already out.
